Lecture Recitals

Kathleen Shimeta Lecture Recitals

In an entertaining program that skillfully weaves the composer’s life story through musically romantic settings of works by some of the world’s leading poets, Miss Shimeta’s lecture recital format reveals the significance of prominent literary figures within Gena Branscombe’s music. Many of the celebrated writers whose poetry inspired this re-discovered composer were personal as well as professional friends whose lives intertwined with her own. In the program, heartfelt stories of Branscombe’s life overlap with great ingenuity, and with a profound understanding of the subject matter.

Kathleen has performed her lecture recital, Gena Branscombe: Her Life in Poetry & Song, at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC; Texas A&M University; for the Outside the Box Women’s Art Festival in Asbury Park, NJ; at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Festival of Women Composers; as well as at other venues.
